The humpback whale cow/calf pair are still in the vacinity of the Rio Vista Bridge. They
spent the day traveling north and south between channel markers 47 (to the north) and 41
(to the south). The pair are currently near channel marker 45.

The biologists were able to successfully obtain a tissue sample (skin and blubber) around
3:30 pm from the cow using a small biopsy dart, which will be analyzed to help assess the
whale's health condition and to help identify her population stock.

Around 5:45 pm, the biologists began making sounds with the pipes in an effort to try and
encourage the whales to keep moving south. The effort will continue until sunset.
